The Need
Designers have resorted to ways of performing memory characterization in search
of better timing and power models. Manual generation of critical paths or partitioning,
all these are labor-intensive, time consuming and error prone.
With an emphasis on productivity and value, MSL is used to implement a push-button
'.Lib-in and .Lib-out' characterization flow for compiler generated memories.
For each memory instance generated from the compiler, MSL reads in the compiler
generated '.Lib' model, and automatically generates the control files for MemChar
and SpiceCut needed to run the characterization. MSL will then update the '.Lib' model
after the characterization is complete.
